Our space was created to be an
oasis, a haven for people to enjoy tea in every aspect: as an enjoyable
beverage, a time for conversation with family and friends or in peaceful self-reflection.
At Franchia, we have created a space that is a shrine to the true art of
tea that transcends space and time. From our selection of primary colors
in white for purity of water, green for the freshness of tea and brown
for nature and serenity to our tableware inscribed with tea poems, our
space is dedicated to our passion for tea. Tea accessories and works of
art celebrating tea decorate the interior and white Korean ceramic
pottery popularized during the Chosen Dynasty, called baek ja are displayed
as reminders of Korea's rich tea culture.
Upon entering our space, guests are entertained by the liveliness of the
tea bar where all the teas are brewed and teas can be purchased for
take-out. On the second floor, guests can sit and enjoy tea time in a
more relaxed atmosphere and dine on light meals with friends. On the top
floor, a traditional Korean tea room designed with waxed floors, low tea
tables and intricately carved wooden sliding doors evoke the serenity of
a mountain temple, providing the ideal space for our tea workshops,
private tea ceremonies and special events.
Our space is one of contrasts, a fusion of the old and new, the heavenly
and worldly. Traditional Korean architecture contrasts with elements of
modernism found in the chic lightings, tea bar and angular dark wood
furniture. Commanding the ceiling, the decorative Korean dan chung mural
contrasts with the simplicity of the walls. The colorful elaborate
patterns on the ceiling which were traditionally used to enhance the
majesty of ceilings in Korean palaces and temples symbolized the utopian
world of ultimate freedom and peace. At Franchia, the dan chung
represents our philosophy of freeing the mind and spirit through tea tao.
